Countersinks are used to cut a small tapered recess into the surface of the casting in order to assure that the tapered shoulder of the L Series stitching pin will seat into the surface. Common applications are on exhaust seats and other machined surfaces. Use a slow speed drill with all countersinks to improve life of the cutting edges.
